I just got back from a (free) week camp full of music! I was stuck rehearsing all day for our welcome home concert.

This is me drumming for the jazz band. We are playing Soul Lady...i forgot who composed it. I have a drum solo after the bass solo and id like to let you guys see me play, and critisize it and bring my hopes down! :)

Nothing to criticize. Your groove and your groove face is cool . Great playing, you've got the stuff.

You sound really good, if not for just a tiny bit of rushing here and there. You certainly have some fine chops. On a funny note, after seeing your setup, I don't want anybody ever telling me that I play with a low set. You're propped up so high, your snare is at your knee caps. But all the set up nazis should also notice how none of that affects your good playing. I think you set up the way you're comfortable. If that doesn't include a textbook arrangement, then too bad.

Soul Lady was written and arranged by Don Sebesky for the Buddy Rich album Buddy and Soul. This has nothing to do with you of course, but that tune really hasn't aged very well, and isn't one of the better things on what was supposedly at that time a controversial album. I've listened to it many times, and find some of the other stuff like the Doors Hello I Love You really good.

Wow, a free camp. That must have been a great experience, and the band has good players in it.

Nice playing! Not only was it a great solo but you really had fun with it, and the band liked it too. You look like you really get into it behind the set, and that's a good thing.

Yeah man I dug the solo a lot. However, I liked you're grooving during the song the most - you have a very nice use of the hi-hat splash and your fills were really well timed and placed.

Keep it up!

Yeah i know the set was low. But i wasnt gonna let that get in the way of the GROOVIN! The drummer before me was like that and i didnt have enough to time to fix haha.

Thanks for the info dude! i forgot everything!

yeah the free camp is great. Not only was it for band but for dance, art, drama, orchestra, mariachi, ballet folklorico!

EDIT: i just realized your matt smith! lol!

Not much to say about that. Great great progress!!!
You were so groovy and instense, you really play with a lot of soul and heart.Your solo wasn`t so overpowered, sounded structured and built up well.

I enjoyed listening to it definitly, the whole band sounds awesome!

Thanks man! My solo was consisted of a overflowing of ideas from my idea hole at that moment.... (not saying where it is.) The groove was very soulful and i put like all my heart into it. (as you can see in my face)

speaking of progress Im a senior in high school this year. This was me freshmen year: http://youtube.com/watch?v=xf8RBL4UasE

and i guess this can show people how much i progressed....actually after watching my freshmen year compared to this year..im surprised...

I always thought youmade a lot of progress. this is good to see and to hear.
And don`t worry if you sometimes are stuck into something and don`t feel like you`re not making this great progress. It`s all a natural progress.

Additionally your drummer face reminds me a lot of Abe Laboriel Jr.

Keep doing what you do mate...

Karl
