Hello all,

I'm going to the LA Music Academy this fall and i was wondering if anyone had any tips on reading music before i go there. Should i really practice everyday on different charts? Or do they really help you along the way for the first few quarters before getting into harder stuff?

If you're a former LAMA student, could you please tell me what your first few quarters were like in terms of how hard the reading classes are?

I just want to make sure i'm prepared because i know they're big on sight reading and everything...

So, any tips?

Thanks!

Is this a trick question? (just kidding ya! :)

Yes, practice everyday on different charts.

Enjoy your time at school and work hard! It's a privilege and opportunity that not everyone gets.

Grab Ted Reed's Syncopation and start crankin away at those exercises.

Don't count on them holding your hand and spoon-feeding you until you get your sea legs. The more preparation you do on your own, the better shape you'll be in when school starts. Wouldn't it be better to spend a couple semesters yawning through stuff you've already mastered than to spend them scrambling to keep up?
