wow, so ship to where, next door or Australia? ;-)
The only way to know is to box them up, weigh and measure the boxes. Then call DHL or whoever and give them them your zip code and the destination zip code. Then you will know. Depending on how you box it could be anywhere between $100.00 and - $400.00

From Vermont to Boise Idaho. Should i box them myself?? I have heard that i should have the company ship it (IE usps or ups etc) so that if there is any problems the company is at fault. I dont know, i might just pack them in a car and take them somewhere and ask which i should do. What do you think>?

Pack it yourself, shipping companies don't care about drums. Have you sold the drums to someone on ebay?

You can get ballpark rates by going on line. USPS, UPS and FED EX. should all have rate calculators on their web sites. New boxes and packing material alone can cost $200 (or more). My Tama electronic kit (5 pads and 1 module) landed in 2 heavy boxes, at $80. My Rogers 4 piece (no hardware) landed at about the same. Shipping my buds Rogers kit (kick, rack, 2 floors) was $180, our boxes and packing. Weight on hardware and cymbals is gonna kill. I shipped a concert marimba, and shipping alone was over $400. If I let the UPS store box it for me, they were gonna charge me $800 (plus shipping). And Box City wanted $600 (plus shipping). Good luck.

Holy cow!!! Thats unreal i was planning on spending 400$ or so. Having a rack may help though that way ill only have to ship boom arms and the high hat stand will be a killer to. I know they go by weight as well. Hardware does weight a ton.

i went to ups.com and estimated 60$ a package for a 50-lbs package so if that is the average and i have 5 that like 300$ or so i think so thats not to bad. But like you said boxes are probably expensive.

Take the heads off, wrap the drums in cardboard, and nest them inside each other. You can split 'em into two boxes, and two heavier boxes will be much less then five light ones. Just pack them so nothing can move, and assume at some point that the carrier will drop the boxes about ten feet.

The cheapest way to ship is prolly on a LTL carrier but you would need to crate everything yourself. Take a pallet in good condition and purchase some 2x4's and plywood and basically build a box around the pallet. Residential delivery also costs quite a bit. I work in shipping so if you have any questions shoot me a PM if you want some quotes.
