Here is the last song we have.
It is complete and uncut, with audio and video in sync this time.
Let me know what you think. 6 minutes of fast 16th notes!

Good job. I think the tempo might have been a little too fast. What I did notice on this clip is that you have your snare really low. It might help you out a little bit to start slowly bringing it back up to at least belt buckle level.

I know. The tempo was too fast. We are playing it much slower now.
Also, I brought the wrong snare stand and just didn't get it set up right.
I bruised my leg pretty bad from hitting it repeatedly with the butt end of the stick.
Thanks for the comments and criticism. You help me quite a bit. I really appreciate it!!!!

I thought you did pretty well, guitar and bass were good, I think your singer was a bit pitchy, but overall not too shabby.

Some dumb person rated it one star on youtube, but I thought it was very nice. Keep it up and have fun!

It is OK.
First gig. I think that song was OK. Not great, but an honest effort.
I appreciate your feedback.

Nice playing, Mike! I thought the intro filll was a bit rushed, but other than that the rest of the song grooved pretty well.

Yes, I cringe when I see that.
We needed monitors and didn't have them. From were I was, I couldn't really hear our guitarist. Just barely. So, I just listened and played it to quick.
Thank you very much for your nice comments and well given criticism. These posts help me find errors and don't make me want to jump off a cliff.
Thanks again!!

Rock on Mike! Nice job...the band sounds good. I think you did really well other than you might have been a little tense? Maybe the faster tempo gave me that impression, rather.
Let me put it this way; if you're hitting your leg w/ the butt of the stick, you should be dropping sticks, not causing bruises!
Good work, keep 'em comin'!

This was the guitar players joke on me. I wanted this to be the 3rd or 4th song on our set list. This song is just 16th notes forever. They all wanted it to be the last song, so I said fine. But, he purposely played it faster than usual to see me cringe.
I was VERY tense during the song. I thought my forearm was going to explode! The guitarist started it off faster than usual and extended the solo just a bit to make me suffer.
It was almost played at the tempo of Tom Sawyer, which is pretty fast to keep 16th notes going for 6 minutes straight. At least for me it is.
At practice, he was laughing at me.
Thanks for the comments though!!!

Yeah, tempo was a bit fast, but that happens (damn guitarists! LOL). There's a few snare rolls you left out that I feel are important to the tune (especially at the COME ON, COME ON , COME ON!!!!!!!) where the energy of the tune explodes. Other than that, sounded good.
When i played that song with my band(s), i imitated the backwards cymbal sound (ssssssssssT) by opening the hi hat and closing very sharp with the snare. I always felt the crowd expects to hear that and it came off sounding pretty good.
Thanks for sharing!

Try winging a stick at him, see if he thinks THAT'S funny. :)
Definitely move the motion to the fingers at that tempo to avoid fatigue, injury, and shrapnel wounds due to forearm explosions!

I normally do most of the snare rolls. They are actually really fun to do. Going from 32nd notes to the 16th triplets is fun! But, my forearm was so shot, that I didn't want to chance it. My right hand was tingling as well. Didn't want to lose the stick!!!
I think the nerves got to me because I felt fatigued by the 4th song and I haven't had any tingling sensations in over a year and a half. I must have been really gripping the sticks hard in the beginning.
Lesson learned. Relax!!!!
Thanks again. You made my day.

At the very end, all I did was use my fingers. That is all that could move!!!!
I have to learn to relax before playing "Live".

You'll be fine........by the way, you guys don't have any balls unless you end Stranglehold and go straight into Wang Dang, especially playing in front of Guitar Center LOL!
Tell the guys it sounded good!

I'm right there with you on that, Mike. I tend to rush fills as well, when I can't hear everyone properly. Even if one of the other musicians speeds up a part, we drummers get the look and the blame for that, when we're only trying to keep up.

Nice work, I can't tell if 1:40 was a one of those nearly sexual experiences during a solo, or a yawn, but it was definitely something.

Hey, for the first time that wasn't bad at all. You definitely have some skills, and you understand drumset particulars. I think you should be pleased with that, knowing there are ways that aren't that hard for getting better.
I think isolating activity above the wrist is the key to you getting to where you want to be. When guys get tired that fast it's almost always about unnecessary arm stuff. You get the action up to the fingers, then immediately start to work towards relaxing that.
You know, I read posts from a lot of guys here who talk about how they're wasting time on the pad, when they want to go directly to the set. To me the pad is about making the hands an effortless thing, where you remove all the pressure, and center on just that part of it. When you jump right to drumset without pad work, you don't really address the discipline of isolating tension, which is the key to pulling together your endurance. And there's nothing more importance than endurance, because without that, you can't play your gig or practice to get better.
Another thing I see from guys, is the question Why do all the pad singles/doubles etc? What's the point? Well, the stuff you're working to correct is part of that too. Cleaning up singles and doubles on a pad require that you get rid of all that arm pressure. IMO, you have enough arm movement just getting around the set. Why give yourself 2x the work for no reason? That's why you're getting tired.
I think if you bought yourself a real feel pad, or that P4 of Pat Petrillo's, then put in 30 honest minutes a day for a while, you'd find that a lot of that would go away, and your skills would go way up. I also think you have enough set skills to step away from some of that for a little while to work on this more, and still not lose your current drumset vocabulary, which is far ahead of your basics.
Even up your fundamentals to your drumset instincts, and then you're probably closer to where you want to be.
My 2c.
