I 2nd Kingy. I really wasn't into Chad Smith that much early on...I liked RHCP, but just thought of Chad as a guy plodding away on the kit. then I opened my eyes and really learned to love what he did back there. He's awsome and Give It Away is an exercise of a rythum section orgy with the way Chad and Flea carry that song.

In fact, to do that song RIGHT you need two funky, badass, FEEL the music musicians like Chad and Flea. Lesser players or players without the requisite feel could never pull that song off.

Nice call.

No, admittedly I've not really listened to enough stuff to really be a fan. My only album is deja voodoo! Matt has some great playing, and I love the tuning of his drums. I need to see a show sometime.

You gotta get some of the early stuff, the first two albums still with Allen Woody. Great stuff. Or the Deepest End live Dvd, that's a must have too.
Matt plays a gorgeous green sparkle Slingerland kit on that, although he plays Pearl now most of the time. Totally killer sound either way.

DRUMMER: Bernard Purdie

SONG: Kid Charlemagne

ALBUM: Royal Scam

Both are basically the same groove, it just flows so nice. It's definitely one of those 'feel' things though, it's not difficult to play, but it never sounds exactly like Purdie.
