View Full Version : Background resonance on the snare!

Hello, fellow drummers.

My case:
When I hit (single) my mounted toms 12"x10" and 13"x11", it has some kind of effect or background resonance or distortion on the snare 14"x 6.5" (deep metal chrome finish).
Questions:
Is it lack of tuning? on snare or tom? both?
Snare or tom distance?
Snare or tom height?

Note: Test, when I switched the snare side lever down (the snare sounds like a tom because the spring belt underneath is not touching the lower skin) then I hit the toms again, and the background resonance on the snare, it's gone.

Your comments are always welcome and I appreciate your time.

Thanks a lot,

I m sure there s a thread on this somewhere. But basically your snare tuning is sympathetic to your tom(s). The heads are tuned close enough alike that when you hit the tom- its' frequency is causing your snare heads to vibrate. I m rambling... just change the tuning on one or the other and it should go away or at least be subtle enough to not bother you.
