um....we had this school performance, we played the one song we needed to play, i practiced it for a long time, to get it down right
that night i was really nervous for some reason, probably because i wa playing drums in front of my parents for the first time, idk why that made me nervous though, and at the end of the song, when i had to do this badass fill, i mess up =[
i felt like shit after, but a bunch of people came up to me and told me that i did a good job, that it sounded badass, and that the whole group played nice
this night: http://youtube.com/watch?v=UsZbcjuY8YM
has nothing to do with the story u just said, im just really bored =]

I joined the band that acompanies the show choir at my school (its some singing and dancing thing for pop music and a little jazz stuff). We learned the 4 songs in about 2 practices and played them with the choir then. Everyone was really impressed with how we sounded and i got alot of compliments from the people saying how good i was. I think it was because last year they had this really bad drummer who never practiced. But idk.

I remember the first gig I dragged my parents to - and I was really worried, since im always going on about gigs and drumming - but I knew they had to judge for themselves - and I think they were really suprised at how well the performance went.
And all because I just ignored them being there and treated them like any other audience member - which i think is key to pulling of a good show - just treat every audience like a crowd of people out to listen to your good musical vibes :-)

I play in a 4 piece blues band in Australia. We have been together for about 2 years. We have a female singer, an awesome blues guitarist, an excellent bass player and myself on drums. We have played quite a few gigs around my city, but mostly in less popular venues with pretty small crowds. Recently we got a break and got 2 bookings in one of the top blues venues. They liked us enough to book us for a regular monthly gigs till xmas. Last Saturday night we played there for the 3rd time, and the place was pretty packed. This time we miked up my beautiful Le Soprano drums for the first time, and we now have a sax player with us. He is also an awesome player. Anyway the crowd loved us, and when we went up to the bar manager to get our money, they increased it by $100 and said we are one of the best bands that play there, which is a pretty good wrap considering they have some of the best bands in my city play there. Lots of people have told us we are really good and tight unit, but it has been hard to crack it in some good venues. It has been so frustrating, but I think we may have finally done it. The others members in my band who are high calibre musos, have also been telling me lately I am playing really well which make me feel even happier, as I have been working very hard on my drumming skills in the last 18 months. This website and similar ones have helped my skills so much. Thankyou.

Well its not a gig but it still made me feel really good. So our school has this variety show thing and us wind ensemble drummers wanted to do something. So it was decided that we were gonna do a stomp act. it took 2 years to perfect it, and it literally went down to the wire. We were worried it wouldnt be liked or very interesting but, it was obviously the hottest act in the whole show, and we were so grateful.

I don't think the club still exists, but there was a small venue on the outskirts of San Francisco called the Pound. It was a legendary building amidst a cement factory, an industrial recycling facility and a postal facility . .. the middle of nowhere. It used to be a strip club/whorehouse before someone turned it into an metal venue. It was basically a small black box with a RIDUNKULOUS sound system.
Somehow my band got booked amidst 3 out of town metal bands. We played pretty straight ahead rock, with a little jam flavor. I guess the thought was, bring in a local band with a draw to open everyone up to the out of towners. Why the bookers thought it should be us remains a mystery to this day (they called us).
Needless to say, the other members my band thought the whole situation was ill-conceived and didn't want to do it. Being the only metal fan in the band, and a HUGE fan of this venue, where in my opinion one could go to on any given night and here the best band no one's heard of with 10 other people. I talked them into it.
The gig went great! Everyone loved us. Why? who knows? Our people didn't show up because none of them go to metal venues (actually, a few of my friends who tried to make it couldn't find it). How there was a huge crowd that night, I'll never know either.
The whole evening was weirdly wonderful, just another Friday night in San Francisco!

I think it was 1977. We'd been playing at a large venue in Hollywood. After our set Tim Bogart asked me if I'd like to audition for a band he was putting togreher.
At the time I was happy where I was. I spoke with Tim on the phone a couple of times, but we never did get together. A couple years later I hung it up, but during the late 70s we had a awesome time.

2 good ones for me off the top'o' my head. 1st- playing on the tail end(stern?) of the Cape May-Lewes Ferry. Beautiful summer night, free access to the buffet, and when I looked behind me, the Delaware Bay with a perfect sunset and all about 10 feet from the water.
2nd- Winning a Battle of The Bands to a few icredibly talented bands that we thought we had no chance against. Still boggles my mind. Ahhhh.....memories : )))

There is nothing worse than "being like all the other bands".
