Early 1970's Slingerland

I recently bought an old set of Slingerland drums. The guy told me he bought them in 1970 or 1971. I was wondering what kind of wood they used on those drums. It looks similar to maple but alot of people have told me they also used mahogany shells then. I don't know how to tell just by looks. I don't have pictures online either so if anyone can help me out and let me know what kind of shells they are that would be great.

The link should help you break it down. It should be maple, poplar and mahogany ply, with maple reinforcement rings.
