They don't appear to be anything special, almost the same as Yamaha's top snares yet they cost twice as much. Is it just the Gadd name?

Its surprising, because ive read around the forum and heard such terrible things about the snare. I think it was FranklinJ or someone who had one and said it sounded about as good as a Pearl Export snare.

Just to name a few:
The special snarebed
The chrome lugs
The black oil handrubbed inside shell
The name plate
The name
The small amount of production

I had 13 maple and it sounded lovley. If you feels like it sounds like export, check youre tuning technique.

Because of the deeper snare bed is questions a lil more of youre tuning style.

And as Aydee says, all the sig snares are expensive. Of any brand.

Ive actually gotten mine to sound really good as of lately. It is really, really hard to tune though because its so sensitive. It de tunes pretty quickly though, which is a huge pain.

anytime you have a "signature" anything expect to pay a premium.

a dog turd could have "neil peart" on it and people will pay four grand for it because it says "neil peart".

Yes, but it was a specially designed dog turd. Neil's own design with help from the folks at Drum Workshop features double roundover 46-degree bearing edges and wider snare beds for that sought-after fat cushy ballad snare sound.

The 19ply (I think) maple hoops are expensive by themselves. It all adds up

Ding Ding. Those black cymbals (Steve gadd) do nothing for me either. In fact, I hate the color for a cymbal.

Don't forget the cheesy two page add / testimony written by Neil praising said signature dog turd.
