1967 Ludwig Downbeat outfit

Time to show you my 2nd kit!

I got this one last march. It's a 1967 3-ply Ludwig. Has the white interiors and an original Black Diamond Pearl wrap. Sizes are 12, 14, 20 with a 1967 Supraphonic 400 snare drum. All drums have baseball bat type mufflers with the white felt and Keystone badge. The only modification is the rail consolette delete for the later double tom mount installation (a common modification back than). I would really like an untouched bass drum with the original rail consolette but it's a little pricey.. And it was the only thing that wasn't original, so I jumped on it:)

Hardware includes a 60's Speed King pedal, Vintage Hi-Hat stand, flat base cymbal and snare stand and a cymbal L-Arm bracket from the same era. Cymbals are Vintage Zildjian A. from the 50's-60's or maybe 70's. Hard to tell. I hate Zildjian's for that:-D

And the sound, wow. So round and warm and resonant. I love it.

Really nice kit. Center flange was a common mod, and it works, and it made your kit more affordable, so it's all good.

Ludwig Flat Base Cymbal Stand 60's: $82.00
Zildjian 18" Trans Stamp Cymbal, 50's Transitional: $123.37
1960's Ludwig cymbal L arm assembly: $56.00
2X 60's Hi-Hat stands and 2X flat based snare stands (WFL and later model): 120$
Zildjian 20'' 1960'S ride: 120$
ZIldjian 40's/50's 14'' Hi Hats: 140$
1967 Supraphonic 400 snare: 125$
1967 Ludwig 4 pieces shell kit (12'' T, 14'' FT, 16'' FT, 20'' BD), under 800$ (I don't use the 16'' floor tom, it was an addition to the kit and it's from 1965, I think the inside has been painted white from one of the owners since Ludwig didn't have white paint in 1965- Am I right?)

So it's around 1600$ + all the shipping costs.

I missed alot of greater sets, with complete original hardware for less than that.. but I thought it would cost less to buy everything separetly... that was wrong but anyways, I own a wonderful sounding vintage kit.. :)

And the chrome on the kit (not the hardware, well, some of it at least), like the lugs, rims and mounts are in an almost new condition. No pitting at all and shiny, I was pretty impressed for a kit that old. The wrap is so clean with almost no scratches and wear.. I said that must have been rewrapped but the wrap is original. The paint in the 12'', 14'' and 20'' is clean, like no one ever took off the drum heads..

I'm looking for a Pioneer Black diamond pearl snare to match this kit, if anyone has that, let me know!

Ludwig started using the white "Reso-Cote" interior finish on all but their largest Toms (18+) in 1961 and stopped using it during the first half of 1968 when they switched to the clear lacquer & "Granitone" interior finishes.........

Wow, that is an awesome kit.

I really want to buy a vintage Ludwig eventually, but I keep getting newer gear, because I have absolutely nothing that I would do with it. It really wouldn't fit any of my bands, etc. When I get one, it'll just end up being there to be there, and that makes me sad. But man...seeing a pic like that makes me want one more and more.
