Hi, ive been out of the drumming world for awhile and I want to get a band going.
I feel strongly that i need a new set of drums to get started again. now that i have a job, it should be easier to get a nice set. rite now i have a vintage slingerland maple kit, but its not really cutting it for me. I play prog/tech deathmetal type stuff and need something with alot of punch and tight response while still having that warm maple sound.

I was looking at a used 5pc pearl prestige session select for $800. I understand that richard christy from iced earth and death played these, and ive always loved his tone. my budget is around 800-1'600 dollars. any suggestions or recommendations would be awsome. Thanks!

May I suggest Mapex! I don't own a mapex set yet but I intend too in the future. I mean to me they have the best sound and quality. I've thought of Ludwig, PDP, and we all know DW is serious money. I played a M Birch Mapex at Daddys Junky and the toms sound crisp and clear. Plus the toms are mounted with the ITS system for maximum resonance!

You were looking at $800 for used. Check out Musician Friend, they are great and you get stuff you order fast. I think you can get a 6 piece brand new with hardware for $800!

Ha! Slingerland death metal!

Are you looking for something bigger, say 8pc? We need to know details about what you want/need to suggest a kit.

three toms and one floor tom is what i looking for. but two toms and a floor tom would be fine. i already have a nice snare and decent cymbals with stands. im really liking the way pearls sound. and i found a masters studio session for 1200 used, should i get that over the prestige?

Good choice, you won't be disappointed.
