View Full Version : Acrolite Snare Head: Ambassador or Emperor?

I've got a 5" x 14" Ludwig Acrolite snare. The guy I purchased it from had a coated Emperor on it. It sounded pretty good but I'm wondering if I should go Ambassador on it this time.
Any thoughts or opinions on these two choices?

I had an extra Evans reverse dot head that I put on it and it really messed up the sustain and sensitivity of the drum. I think the reverse dot would sound better on a deeper snare.

The Acrolite aluminium shell already give a warm and focused tone so I think (to my taste though) that an unmuffled single ply head would do the trick.

I have a '78 acrolite, and the Ambassador is by far my favorite head for that drum. I have and Ambassador hazy on the snare side with a "puresound blasters" 20 strand snare.

I tune with a drum dial, and my favorite range is 90 batter and 80 resonant.

Hey guys, thanks for the feedback. It looks like I need to go pick up an coated Ambassador.

I'll have to try those drum dial settings after I get a drum dial.

I always put on a coated Ambassador first, whenever I get a new snare. Almost always it stays on without having to put another head on. It is the Standard.
