I'm shopping for a Tama superstar hyperdrive and the prices for the SK and SL are different. whats the difference??they look the same.. SK is birch wood but i cant find out what SL is. is SL just more expensive because of the nice colors? or is there something I dont know here.. PLS help!

I think the SK series are covered whereas the sl series are laquered in some rather nice colours i must say. Also i think the hardware on the SL is black nickel plated. So mostly cosmetic but i would imagine the laquered drums sound slightly better too.

The SK Customs are wrapped and the SL Customs are lacquered. I have an SL Custom and they look amazing. The black Nickel plated hardware looks great and the sound is amazing. I am not 100% on the wood used for each series but I would bet that they are the same. The sound difference would come from the wrap however but that is probably the only difference not including the appearance.

The cost difference is most likely based on the labor of making them.

SK= Wrap finish, Birch outer layer, basswood inner layer
SL Custom = Lacquer finish, Basswood outer, birch middle layer, basswood inner layer

The wood differences don't change the sound really noticeably, the main difference people focus on is the finishes, the SL Custom finishes have a more higher-end look to them.
