Hi there. I'm new here.
Sorry to ask for subjective opinions about a drum (reading your forum this tends to happen quite a lot) but I have the chance to buy a Black Panther Birdseye Maple AS NEW for £175 in a classified ad. Looking at internet prices this looks like a good deal so I'm going to view it. The quality of this drum (as denoted by price bracket) so far exceeds what I'm used to that I'm going to be darned pleased with it - guaranteed. But I'm trying to think pragmatically, so......
As I'm buying this drum blind I won't really be able to test the sound. But what I ought to invest in really is a good ALLROUNDER. Could this drum fall into this category?
Could it play indie/heavy rock and still cut through the mix, and also quieter jazzy stuff? This is very important to me and if this drum IS very genre specific I may have to give it a miss.
I saw in another thread a chart that put snare materials in order of their acoustic properties - warm one end, bright the other. Birch was at the opposite end of the scale to the bright brass/bronze drums that rocksters like. But, I know material isn't the only factor - which is why I ask for your opinions :)
Many thanks ,
TOny
