Until yesterday I was only interested in SCB's, but after testing a bunch of other kits out, from DW's to Yamahas, I found the only kit in the store equally as great as the SCB... The Gretch USA Custom. I tried out both the New Classic and USA Customs and since the New Classics don't come in the sizes I want it's between the USA's and SCB's. The both have a lot of the same features and both come in the finish I'm probably getting (blue sparkle), but I sdon't know very much about Gretches. What would you guys recommend? And just wondering, what's the Silver Sealer made of?

The Silver Sealer is a secret family recipe. Silver paint. I haven't played SCB but I do ply Gretsch and can only say you won't go wrong with the USA Customs.

go look at the price of a used TAMA kit and a used Gretsch kit ;-)

The US made Gretsch is an investment.

I'de take the Tama over pretty much everything. But the USA custon is not a bad kit at all.

So, Tama.

They're not made any better than Tama's, just different. And more old school. I'm starting to lean towards the Tama more though. Mainly because Tama's blue sparkle isn't a wrap and the Starcast mounts are much better. Hmm... I'm still torn between the two though.

Agreed Starcast mounting system is by far the best i have used personally. My brother has a set of Gretsch maples and the mounting system on those isnt very great at all. BTW awsome pic polymetrix (from parabola)
