Im lnto building a drum quite soon and I was thinkging bubinga, since I have an attraction to the sound qualities of this wood. If anybody knows where I could aquire a 14x6.5 shell i would appreciate it greatly!

Your chances of finding a blank Bubinga ply shell are slim to none.
You could get a Unix Bubinga stave in any size you want. Superior tone, projection, and resonance. I'm not saying that because I have a Unix on the way. I have played stave snares since 2005 and love all the benefits on the stave drum. I just happened to have some bad luck, see thread, "I'm seriously about to cry"

Unix is the way to go. You can also look around http://www.ghostnote.com/ they might be able to help you out if you're looking for a ply drum. Just make a thread if you can't find any info in the search.

Here is the place where the custom drums shops go:

They are respected by everyone. Top quality and fair prices.

ouch! i just looked on the vaughncraft site and saw my shell for $223! I may have to give UNIX a ring, as i happen to like the sound of stave shells, i was just hoping t oget some experience in drum building. SocietysSorrow, can I pm you about an estimated price Unix would have given you , just to see how much cash i would be dropping.

As ironcobra posted, check out http://www.conceptionunix.com
Frank has the pricing on his site for shell only pricing. If you want him to build you a complete drum, the prices are higher of course. Either way you look at it, Bubinga is an expensive wood. It's high in demand and low in supply. I have read Bubinga is endangered, but I'm not too sure I believe that.
It's a boutique premium wood, so expect to pay premium prices.

yeah, i took a look at the site, but even getting just the shell wit hedges and hardware drilled is cheaper from unix then from anywhere else.
i guess its time to get me a bubinga stave drum.
