The best way to get out of a rut is to stop playing for quite some time. A couple of days even a week or two. Trust me it works. I've tried it and I bet theres more members that have done this as well.

This works, also try listening to some music that you normally wouldn't.

Thats a great idea too. i picked up an Apocolyptica album and it really helped me through my last rut.

Yeah listen and play to different music, or go on youtube and watch a lesson on something that you haven't done before, like some latin patterns or something like that

In my experience, any rut that I get into usually isn,t drum based, or musical even. Something what works for me is to go for a walk in nature, a couple long walks. You get into agroove where the pulse of the feet take over, and somehow the emotions that cause this rut can start to get sorted out, may not work for everybody, but usually does for me. Usually these ruts are based around having to prove something, thus destroying the creative drive. Try painting a picture, or woodworking or any other artistic venture. Something where your ego is't invested.
