Hey everyone! Just picked up this 6-Piece Yamaha Stage Custom Nouveau set in the Matte Raven Black finish.
Sizes:
17" x 22" Bass Drum
5 1/2" x 14" Snare Drum (Might be using my Pearl Chad Smith Sig)
7" x 8" Tom
8" x 10" Tom
9" x 12" Tom
16" x 16" Floor Tom
Some of you may know, but for those who don’t the shells are made of 8-ply oak (outer ply), Philippine mahogany, and falkata shell. The Matte Black finish is awesome!
No setup pics yet as all of my hardware and cymbals are at my bassist’s house.
Here are some pics of the shells though! Enjoy! And of course set up pics are a MUST and will be up asap. Band practice is soon!
Comments welcome!

nice kit. cool finish. i would strongly recommend not to put too much tension on the lugs though. i don't know why yamaha manufactured those but i know they're not that durable compared to steel lugs.

Love being able to see the woodgrain finish. Very cool. Put a Gretsch bassdrum head on those babies and she's perfect. J/K very nice.

Nice kit and nice sizes too. I love the 4" interval between a rack tom and floor toms. I sometimes set my kit up with a 10-12-16 configuration, or just a 12-16 of 10-14. Tons of fun :) Enjoy!

You picked the perfect finish. There is something about a dark colored Yamaha that turns me(the drummer side) on. If I ever bought a Yamaha, it would be in a dark shade just like this.
Can we get a close up on the finish? From those pictures it's really hard to see the wood grain, it just looks like brushed gun metal.

Thanks for the advice. I'll take it into consideration.

i love that finish.
if i got a set of yamahas id probably get that finish.
how do they sound?
and might i ask why you chose to go with the noveau lugs?

Well, yesterday I set them up using my neighbors hardware and cymbals and wow. Not only do they look great, but they sound amazing! I've yet to even tune and I was still blown away with the sound I was getting. This thing runs laps over my Pearl Export.
I didn't really "choose" the nouveau lugs. I thought I'd just give them a try you know. I'm actually finding them nice so far because it makes the drums lighter. Other than that though, we'll have to see what happens.
Thanks!

Sorry, no setup pics yet. I KNOW! I'm sorry.
But to answer your question, I only spent $500 for the 6 shells. Pretty amazing deal.
Also to everyone who's wondering, I haven't had a single problem with the lugs so far. I put an Evans EQ3 on the bassdrum and WOW, this is THE lightest bass drum I have ever moved. All the drums are extremely light which is a huge plus.
Thanks for the comments guys! And I hope to have setup pics soon.

im too poor right now for all new shells but i am looking into getting an 80s yamaha export set and converting the floor to a bass drum for a little custom hipgig.
people are always talking about the composite lugs, but i think that if yamaha put them on the high end drums, and the chrome nouveau on the lower, there would be no complaints. i bet with those lugs, your drums weight 30 lbs less.
and pics... come on im dying...
Beautiful, bro. I bet it feels like Christmas at your house.
Be sure to post pics of the kit when it's all set up.

Wow, $500 for the six pieces?? That's great, glad you hear you got such a great price. The drummer at my church has a kit with the same finish, although his isn't a Nouveau, it's just a stage custom. The SC's are pretty popular-- I've seen so many here on DW and from the sound of it they're popular for good reason.

Such a gorgeous kit for $500!! I don't follow Yamaha pricing too much but that seems like a real steal for the quality of drums you have there. Congratulations! Beautiful!!

Thats a cool finish. Congrats. Cant wait to see it all setup.
I also have a Stage Custom Nouveau, so I can vouch for how great they sound for drums at this price point. I've had mine for a year and a half and I haven't had any problems with the lugs. I did read on another forum that the problem is with the snare drum (I've never used my SCN snare, I have a Pearl Sensitone Steel). Apparently the tuning bolts supplied with the snare dum are too long, causing them to bottom out under tighter tuning and crack the composite lug. If you contact Yamaha, they should send you shorter tuning bolts and maybe even a few extra lugs.

Great value for money.. introduced of offset the perception that YAMAHAs are expensive.

i seen a dark green to black fade set of yamaha 's like yours for $399. at my local GC. and its very tempting right now to get it.
as far as the snare lugs do you just call yamaha up and tell them you have a problem and they just send the shorter lugs?
