I finally joined the club...

so after purchasing my first two sets I had decided that I would not buy another set,unless it was a ludwig.
I was content in waiting and saving up the 2 grand to have one to call my own.

this weekend i saw this set on craiglist, and after some careful convincing of my parents they took me to look at it,
and i ended up taking it home.

As for the drums. Very cool. I am sucker for a natural finish and those look veeeeeery cool. Nice snag.

my sister had the camera so i had to imrpovise with my dads laptop.
and the natural finish was one of the reason i went after this kit.

What cymbals you gonna put with those nice looking drums?
well this buy was kinda impulsive,
so it took a little bit out of my cymbal fund,
so right now id rather not say what cymbals i have.
i looking into buying some versatile hihats,
and was thinking zildjian new beats or K's. any suggestions.

and a gretsch catalina club jazz.
im trying to sell the forum and keep the club jazz for smaller gigs.

what do the black and white badges mean?
and this kit sounds huge.
it came to me with Coated diplomat on the rack,
coated ambassador on the floor.
and ambassadors on the resos.(actually the rack reso says remo cs controlled sound, but i dont see any dots?)
all are pretty new.

Black/white badge ID's the kit as a standard model, not a Classic Maple. You probably have 8 lugs, not 10, on the kick. And standard lugs, not Super Classic, or Super Classic mini lugs. Ludwig sometimes used the same shell in their standard line, sometimes a different shell. Basically, your kit is the for-father to the Accent line.

ok ill try to upload some pics as soon as possible.

Those holes are either the muffler knob or from a tom mount. I'm leaning away from the muffler because typically those were typically mounted over the Ludwig badge and the distance from those holes to the head is too much for the muffler to reach the head.

But why would the previous owner remove the mount and put another one on the other side?

i dont know if this will help, but these are the bass drum legs. one has a ludwig screw to tighten it, and the other has a generic kind of circle screw.

Sorry Harry, this is not a standard badge. It was used for the Rocker series for most of its existence. The standard badge is an upside-down triangle with the bottom point rounded off in a circular fashion. They do look like 6-ply shells. The spurs are also the Rocker type, not the new elite that are more common on the birch series.

Ludwig didn't put much thought into where the badge was located. See picture. Those are my Ludwig Big Beats.

I think the lugs are the mini lugs Ludwig still has as an option on the classic series. The black/white badges indicates that it's a rocker series. Correct me if i'm wrong.

Well, IMHO, the toms are 6-ply maple, Classic series.

The bass drum, however, has me puzzled. How many plies is the bass? It is hard to tell from you blurry pics. What is the size? It only has 8 lugs per side as opposed to 10 which was common on the Classic 6-ply drums. The spurs appear to be original as there are no extra holes. The t-rods are from the Rocker series. Which is no big deal. The hoops do not appear to be original, unless they were stripped. The hoops are not a close match to the kick either. It almost looks as if the kick is a Rocker series dressed up as a Classic. They would have had to pull a wrap off of the kick as the Rocker series did not come in a natural finish. The Rocker/Standard lugs used the same hole pattern as the large Classic lugs, so it is easy to swap them out. How is the finish on the Kick? Smooth and glossy like the toms or not?

One thing to keep in mind is that almost anything was possible from Ludwig. And as LudwigVonDrumCrazy says, "It is what it is..........."

I've found that when taking pics with a digital camera, it is best to stand back and zoom in on the part I want in focus. When I get real close-up, the camera seems confused on what to focus on.... but I am sure I don't know what I am doing either.....
