You won't get a huge response on here because not very many people listen to hardcore. I will usually come into a breakdown with a simple....BOOM TAP(bass snare). But the ride bell works great with a double tap as well. I think the bell on your ride will work better than a separate bell, it has more of the sound you're looking for.

I like to use both bells and whistles here and there.

Bells of cymbals are great when you want a drier, brighter bell tone to cut through instead of the usual ride sound. I like to use mine a lot of times for a lot of reasons...

Yeah I've recently started using the bell of the ride a lot.

I'm thinking of adding an Alu Bell on the kit !

I always use my ride bell a lot, sometimes I also use the bell on my 16" power crash, that has a very glassy tone to it, sends shivers down people's spines :)

i have 6-7 bells between 5" and 7"...i like to use 'em between song's pauses or some fills with hi hat or ride, and splashes...also...i really like the use that do Gavin Harrison (very melodic) and Chris Adler with double bass fills...and it's funny when Portnoy play accent with snare and bell at the same time.
anyway...i really think that Gavin is the modern king of the chimes/bells use!

PS sorry for my english!

I use the bell of my ride a lot...especially during guitar solos, etc...I'll accent on the bell, then ride on the rest of the cymbal, stuff like that. I love the sound.

I also use all of the bells of my cymbals to play melodic parts at times.

I used to have a 9" Alchemy Raw Bell, but now I just use a Z Custom Mega-Bell Ride.

I use a Sabian custom/prototype 9" "Hells Bell" in my setup for times when the ride bell isnt aggressive or loud enough.

I love the way the dude from Breaking Benjamin uses his bell as an accent. It's likely a cymbal bell, but it works for him. I also use the ride bell a lot.

Saw blades work pretty well as a bell substitute.

I think some people are confused here, I know hes talking about using his ride bell currently but what hes asking is how many use bells like Zil Bells ect...

I personally don't like them and wouldnt use one just because It isn't something I like, I normally would just use a ride or crash bell because the fact its not a bright short PING, a ride bell and has much more character, hitting a ride or crash bell it gives the tone a little more sustain as well..

Im just one of those people who prefer a really characterized tone like a dark/dry hand hammered cymbal.

I have a 6" stagg bell that i brought for a mess about and it is pretty fun. i wouldnt mount it onto my ride though, because i love the bell on my ride too much aha. They are fun to mess around with but for the kind of music i play i find them a little inpractical. I know they would be great fror prog and metal stuff though.

i use both 6 inch and 9.5 inch Zil bells on my set..and mostly just throw them into some fills kind of like Chris Adler does. I enjoy Zil Bells, but its all about your personal preference

a bigger zil-bell is better for heavier music to lead into breakdowns in my opinion.
