Ok so at the moment in my drumming im looking at lots of Jazz....from Dizzy Gillespie to the Mahavishnu Orchestra to Jaco.....which is all amazing and totally what i want to do.....

!!!!......BUT.....!!!!

.....you know when you get a song stuck in your head and you just want to know how to play it, and no matter how fine it sounds you just cant get it for some reason....?

Well, strangely i heard Ameries "Gotta Work" tune a few weeks ago on the radio in work....now i just cant get the beat out of my head....everytime i sit down at a drumkit i try it again and again....

someone help me....i thought i was well capable of it....but its got me stumped....!!!

I haven't heard it in a while but it sounded like a pretty basic breakbeat to me?

quite a bit of swing in there too, correct?

Im sure if you played a lot of swing you wouldn't have to much of a problem

What you gotta do is sit down with pencil and staff paper and just listen to it 1000 times and write down the beat. It seems like its pretty straight forward.

When it comes to transcribing, its all about going 1 note at a time.

man just keep on, challenges are good, if not incredibly amazing to acheve. you could also look for persional transcribed versions to get you a start on places like ultimate-guitar.com which has a program called Guitar Pro where you can write scores down for pretty much anything but that might be a bit much for just a song.

keep it up and maybe if you get comfortible enugh playing it and think you'd ever want put it on youtube!

What an interesting song, very soulful. The horn line is a sample from "Sam and Dave - Hold on Im Coming", except instead of it being a fast paced soul sound they kinda funkafize it. The beat is relatively easy, if I had a program to transcribe it for you, I would.
