Yamaha Groove Wedge

Since there doesn't seem to be too much info about this product, I figured I'd throw up my little comparison video here. These things work wonders on small snares.

My camera doesn't really pick it up so well, but there are some nasty overtones when I do the rim clicks on the metal rim as opposed to the Groove Wedge.

what do you mean it works better on smaller snares?

I'm sure it works great on 'normal' snares too, but I haven't tried it on my 14" snares. I just said that, cause smaller snares (< 14") are known for not producing very good rim clicks.

When using a smaller snare (12" or 13") it can be difficult to get a nice rim click sound or even a consistant one, with the groove wedge it basically eliminates that problem.

Does it make it easier to actually get to the rim if you know what I mean?
Sometimes if I'm playing normally on the snare there's a lot of fumbling before I can get into the right position to execute a rim click?

I don't think it makes it any easier or harder to get a rim click in. It would probably make it easier to get the "sweet spot" right away though.

I have actually seen a major act using a groove wedge and still triggering the cross stick sound. This doesn't have anything to do with the drummer's abilites; more to the point is the ability to get the sound good in those big arenas!

I can use something like this, the click of my snare is not so good.

But maybe it gets in the way when playing snaredrum.

It was designed by Russ Miller who needed a tambourine sounds while playing a snare for a Moulin Rouge track (hough never used at the final cu)

That becam the Groove Jingle Wedge.

The meaning of the Groove Wedge is simple. Get a decent rimclick (quick) on smaller snares like 10'', 12'' (and sometimes 13'') but also on 14' and 15'' (Cascara)


As my rimclick on smaller snares (im usally using 12 or 13 snares) im using a high pitched LP block (in Ltd black) instead of the wedge.
