After 5 long, long months it's arrived!
This is my dream kit. After owning many kits of all sizes, I put together my ideal sizes. It's a fusion of large and small drums, that I feel can be used in any musical application.
Specs: Sonor SQ2 Birch Ebony exterior/Scandinavian Birch Interior
Rack tom - 12x11 Thin birch shell
Floor tom - 15x15 Medium birch shell
Bass Drum - 20x18 Medium birch shell
Snare drum - 13x6.5 Heavy birch shell
Paiste 2002 14" Sound Edge hats
Paiste Dimensions 22" Deep Full Reflector Ride
Paiste dimensions 16" Power crash
DW 8000 double pedal
Tama Iron Cobra Lever Glide HH stand
The Sound:
Incredible. Warmest birch drums I've ever heard. Both Floor and rack resonate forever. The bass drum is VERY punchy for it's size, and comes reasonably close to many 22s I've played.
The best part of the kit is the snare. Even with the stock heads, it sounds unreal. Crisp and dry, It's as sensitive and articulate as any stave snare I've owned (Brady Jarrah Block, Unix). The ply / solid, stave debate is no longer a question for me. I hear no difference between a quality thick ply drum, and a stave drum. Both sound INCREDIBLE!
The Craftsmanship:
I wish I could've taken pics when I had the heads off. The Scandi interior veneer is gorgeous, and the Matte Ebony on the outside is amazing. I stared at these drums for like an hour before I set them up.
Hardware is fantasic and classy, and I Really like the easy tune bass drum lugs.
If I ever get out of debt, I will purchsae some mics and get sound up. But that probably won't happen for...ever! Happy to answer any questions!

I've been waiting for your kit to arrive!! 4 months and counting etc. That picture of the BD on its own just makes the lugs looking amazing, so strudy looking. Hope it serves you well, I can't see it having any flaws.

That is one beautiful set of drums. I have a few questions. How did you come to picking those sizes? You just don't see an 11x12 or a 15x15, interesting. The snare drum size sounds delicious. How do you like the 8000 pedals and how do they compare to the 5000 & 9000 pedals? I know you've been waiting for these for a LONG time and I want to just say congratulations and enjoy!

Holy crow, that's a beauty! I really like the bass claws on those SQ2s, must be very convenient to just turn a knob and have it stay in place.
Very classy and it smacks of exceptional quality...get some sound clips up here!

I wanted a rock sized rack tom, but never liked 13"s. They are just too difficult to tune, IMO. I played a Premier kit about a year ago that had a 12x11 rack and I was sold. I went with the 15" floor because I wanted a little less drum than a typical 16, but more than a jazzy 14. It's thunderous, but I can tune it just a little higher when I need to. Really nice.
The 8000s are....OK. I always felt like the 9000's were to big and too responsive, if that makes any sense.
I've owned 5000s, and just liked the feel of them better. I'm sure with some patience and adjusting I'll get them the way I want.

At first I thought this was a vintage Sonor, a friend of mine has a couple of Sonor kits from the sixties. Nice kit, love the finish. I'll bet those babies set you back a couple decades.

That's a beautiful kit man! Congrats on finally landing your dream kit. Those easy tune lugs on the bass drum look really interesting - never seen that.
Gotta love that finish too. Again - congratulations.

I figured you must have played a 12x11 before, thus liking it. Come to think of it , my old Tama Superstars were the Xtras series and it had a 12x11 and it was my favorite of the rack toms. Everyone seems to be getting away from the power tom sizes so it surprised me that you went with that size. I'm sure that 15x15 is sweet though. As far as the 8000 pedal goes, I'm sure you'll dial them in. I played the 5002's for ten years and upgraded to the 9002. At first, my impression was like yours, but after some slight adjusting, I'm really liking the 9002.

Gorgeous set. I seem to recall Jungle Lord has one like this. The unusual drum sizes are cool and set it apart in a subtle way.

Not sure I can say much else about this kit that hasn't already been said. I already know it sounds really incredible. Love the dimensions (cymbals... not the drum sizes), too! As far as the dimensions of the drums, I think that 10, 12, 15, 18 would make a great tom combination if you ever expand. By the way, did you sell your soul to the devil, or just give your first-born? ;-)

No expansions in the near future, but I may add a 10x10 at some point.
Not worried about the first born thing...I can always have more.

I'm floored. Every time I see a sonar kit, it just makes me want to go out and get one. (Just don't tell my saturns). The finish looks great and I really like the look of the hardware, especially the bass drum spurs.
so great kits ! nice look!

This is actually much nicer than Derek's S-Classix kit. It has an interior exotic veneer, graduated shell thickness, and ez tune bass drum lugs. Not to mention sizes that aren't available in S-Classix.
However, Derek can probably make a CB kit sound better than mine with his mad skillz.
