So i bought the book hearing it's a good jazz book, and i lost the CD to it. Is the CD an important part of learning from the book or am I good without it?

I don't think you need the CD, I also have that book and also I did not listen to the whole CD I think the CD only has the stuff on it that is written in the book, so you can hear what the notations sound like.
Maybe someone who listened to the whole CD can also chime in.

Hey. I have the book and CD. I don't think the CD is vital, although it did help me learn some of the grooves and how to approach them. There are about 5 play-alongs on there too (minus drums), and versions with drums, of John's own compositions. In my opinion, these are pretty important as they help you apply the concepts in a controlled environment. They're pretty authentic sounding too and not cheesy rhythm section workouts like in Tommy Igoe's book, which makes it all the more fun!

Lloyd.
