hey there. my friend just bought a new drum kit, but he lives in a pretty crowded neighborhood. what are some drum muffling techniques that he could use with out losing to much sound but still eliminating some volume.

Get a pair of lighter sticks and play softer.

Try taking the top heads off and fill each drum (half to three quarter) with crushed up newspaper ( just take individual sheets of newspaper, screw them up into a ball and throw them in) do the same with the bass drum. Replace heads and tune up as best you can. The drums don't sound the greatest but it sure does deaden the sound.

The other alternative is to place rubber practice pads on the drums.
