This is a splice of mine from the ""A" Section Only
Not sure if this is helpful to drummers in that it is not the whole tune, but I am having a blast with it

It does go to the build 2 minutes in, then breaks back down, then builds up again. About 7 minutes long
AS A NON-DRUMMER I HAVE AN INQUIRY;
at the build up (2 minutes in), are those flams at 2:00 and 2:02 ?
If so, is it between the snare and bass drums ?
is it double bass ?
I'm hearing the figure starting on the "&" as a 16th note triplet ending on the next down beat.
Is that correct ?
Also, what drums are being used on each part of the figure including the next downbeat?

Hey Geoff,
Thanks for that. My students and I will be getting some use of this track you put together. One of my favorite Porcaro tracks for sure.
As far as the lick, those are 32nd notes on the "a" of 1 and 3. Single bass. There is a tiny little 32nd ghost note on the snare if you really listen.
Jeff was the man.

Cool, glad to hear that you will get some use out of this track
Man, I am such a guitar player in that I wasn't even CLOSE to getting that rhythmic figure right
So those are 2 32nd notes directly falling on the "a" ?
yup, I knew I heard a little snare in there
Also, on what part of the beat is the snare ghost?
Would you want me to come up with a slowed down version of this for your students?
I can do this w/o changing the pitch
Mos def intrigued by this groove
Thanks for the explanation
Any chance of you-tubing that one for the cause?
I need pictures, lots of pictures, LOL !
Anywhere, here's my wank track for the day on it

Here is an attempt at transcribing it.
The ghost note is really tough to hear, but this works:

Thanks Terry
Well, at least I got the tempo right when I was "Tap Tempoing" on my metronome !

Terry, would it be presumptuous of me to ask if you have the "A" section transcribed ? :)

Hey Geoff,
I transcribed it a long time ago on paper. The chances of me finding my old notebook are pretty slim, unfortunately. If you are having any trouble hearing anything particularly, let me know, and I'll try to help.
I would say that it's pretty clear for the most part. It's definitely not easy to play it like Jeff, though!

I can play the groove, but not at this tempo. I had an earlier post about 16th notes on a hi-hat. Porcaro is using a Moeller stroke here, isn't he? I don't see much finger action.
I LOVE this kind of 16th note HH groove, but have a hard time playing them. The problem I have is that my wrist and arm moves too much. Other than "stop doing that", what suggestions do you guys have for building up to this kind of speed?
