a local shop in my country called me to do a drum workshop there.they called me when they heard the metal band that i play in, but that's the thing.im gonna do a metal segment in my workshop by playing to a backtrack, but i want my solo to be musical and versatile.i already started working on like a rudimental snare solo and some coordination stuff but can somebody plz give me ideas that i can do in my first workshop, i realy want to show the people that im not just a metal drummer.
thanx everybody

What is the workshop all about? Metal or just drumming in general? If you were hired because of your metal credentials, I see no reason to deviate from that to areas that you aren't familiar with. You could, however, make a list of everything you've practiced through the years and figure out how they apply to not only metal drumming, but all styles of drumming.

What country is it? I am just curious, anyway man, you are known to be a metal drummer, all you gotta do is teach them some techniques, like maybe double bass, and speed, do some nice double bass and fast chops to surprise them... anyway, they may expect more from you as a drummer, maybe do some fusion, like some hip-hop, you can even do a hot latin rhythm section, that will make a great impresion, and they will know you as a versatile drummer (not just a metal drummer) anyway, do your best as a good metal drummer, and combine some with other rhythms!!! :)

Good luck with that bud!

Dave Lombardo was born in Havana, Cuba. When we wrote Power Grooves (book/CD) together and hung out a lot, I found out some of his favorite music was....Cuban music! Amazing. So....maybe you can figure out some "latin" stuff to play? maybe?

Tito Puente's album Top Percussion was an influence on Mr. Lombardo. Also, Puente in Percussion.
