I have the opportunity to purchase a 7 piece DW made in 1997 for 2200.

Can you tell me with these specs if it is worth that amount?

22 x 18 Bass Drum
8, 10, 12, 14 fast rack toms and a 16 floor tom.

The kicker is a 5.5 x 13 Craviotto custom solid maple snare.

It comes with 2 dw 9000 series toms stands.

It sounds great, but I worry about the age of the kit.

I am checking it out tonight at 7PM. So, any info you can get me prior to that time would be great.

Thanks

Sounds like a great deal. What exactly are your worries with the age of the set? 11 years is nothing. People are still playing 100-year-old drums just fine.

The snare is worth $500.00- $600.00. That puts the rest of the gear at $1700.00. That sounds like a real good deal to me.

That shell pack with that snare is a great combo. Those are Keller shells also.

I'd go for it.

The age of that kit (11 yrs) is nothing. You're going to see it in person and I'd guess play it.
If you like DWs and all is in good condition, $2200 is a good deal ( especially with that snare).

I didn't know if I should be concerned or not with the age.

I know that they used Keller back then, but didn't know if the older DWs might have had quality issues or something.

Thanks for your help

As long as the kit was taken care of age is nothing, I have a set of yamaha's I've been playing for 23 years and they sound just as good today as they did brand new ;-) The good news is you can go and check them out before buying!

Age is of no concern with this kit. I own an ' 89 DW kit and as long as it's been cared for you're ok. What type of finish is it? I know there have been a few wrap problems, so that's why I ask. I would offer $2k, but if they don't budge, I think it's still a good price. When I was looking at DW kits, I actually preferred the older keller shelled kits. That snare is definitely a bonus. Just so you know I paid $1600 for my kit a little over a year now. My kit included 10", 12", 14", 16", & 18" toms and a 24" kick. Here's a link to my kit:

I've heard some of the wraps from before 1999 have had "issues". Double-check the seams before you buy.

The only other DW issues I've heard about were the Workshop Series (precursor to Pacific) hardware, which isn't an issue in your case.

$2200 sounds like a good deal, as long as the finish is in good shape (no "tom-rubs", etc...)

So, as in "mine", does that mean you bought them? Emerald oil satin is very nice.
