Anyone here have any experience with this snare drum?
I bought one a few weeks ago and didn't quite like the sound of it with die cast hoops, so i outfitted it with single flanged hoops. Boy does this snare sound awesome!! I've gigged with it a couple of times now and absolutely love the sound i get from it. My question is, what makes this snare so special? It's a 9ply maple shell, similar to many other maple snares i have, but why does this one shine so much more?
Any thoughts?

Well sonor does use a specific technique for laminating the plys witch I belive they call a cross lamination? I'm not to sure but It could be a factor of a couple things.

Hardware, Ply's, Heads, Wires. After all it is a sonor and they make some of the best quality instruments out there

I have to strongly agree with that. I have another limited addition 21 ply 14x5.5 Macassar Ebony snare and it's also amazing. As far as Sonor snares go, i'm 2 for 2!
I played a gig at the local bar last night and some real drunk guy wanted to come up and play my kit, i told him "NO way". I may have let him if i would of had any other snare, but i wasn't gonna let someone bash the crap out of my Sonor. It's too bad they're so darn expensive. I'd like to get a few more. For this one, i traded #10 of 250 13x5,5 American Ash Craviotto snare and have absolutely no regrets.
