Help!!!!!

Hello,

This is my first post here. I am a newbie!!!!

However I am not a newbie to drums. I retired back in 1990 from professional playing, and like any good drummer back in my day, I'm broke! lol

Anyway....I am going to be getting a new kit. I am probably going to go electronic(Roland Hd1 or Yamaha DTxplorer). I can make payments at one of those online music retailers...or.....there is this acoustic set.

I have tried the electronics enough to know what I like about them. My question is....had anyone tried the Tama Imperialstar with the Meinl cymbals?

How are the cymbals? How do the drums sound, etc.

Any feedback would be helpful and appreciated.

Welcome to the forum...nice icon (one of my faves)!

Those Tama drums are pretty nice, and nicer than the same series from years ago.

If you are just getting back into it, and on a budget, they're fine, and with good heads, you can make them sound more than OK.

The hardware is very good, and it's not super heavy.

Really, it's size is just right, and they're pretty available items to add to later (without being overpriced too).

There's other kits out there, but I don't think you'd go wrong with this kit if the sound is agreeable to you, and it's in your budget.

That Red is a pretty nice color, that Midnight Blue/Black is sharp and the Gun Metal color is nice too.

Sorry, but I don't know about the cymbals, but if they come free with the kit, at least you'd have something to start (back) with until you can get something nicer.

For Pete's Sake - the Monkey's song at the end of their T.V. show. These are entry level drums. You're probably looking at something like a $600 package deal. I'd get the e-kit, and then go hybrid. http://harryconway.typepad.com/ Shop used, and you can score a lot more "bang for your buck", especially right now. It's a buyers market, not a sellers.

I was going to say those drums look pretty cheap (although even Tama's low-end stuff is still good quality). I agree, he could do much better getting a good used set.

lol yeah i used to think that too, but it's M, IE Meinl :) Dunno what the circles are for tho. Eddie agrees with going used, in my local drum shop they had a tama rockstar used for £400 which is probably going to be about $400 as well in america since that's just the way things work.
