Hi All,
I did a search but didn't see anything here. There has been a lot of talk about the Pro M lately. Jeff from Mapex said to me..."by far, best bang for your buck right now" ..he also said...."a good pair of heads on a Pro M and you'd be hard pressed to be able to tell the difference from a kit that costs 2x as much" ....
Well this coupled with a MAPEX BLOWOUT going on all over with 2007 kits is making me itchy :-) Anyhow...
Has anyone seen the following kits in person ?
-Cherry Fade
-Platinum Sparkle
-Transparent Black
-Natural
-Ruby Red Pearl
Thanks!!

Fell in love with my Platinum Sparkle Pro-M's the first time I saw them...still love them. After I found out they were a lacquer and not a wrap, I was sold. Here's some pics and a breakdown:

Well, I hate fades, so I won't comment. I've seen the black trasnparent, and it is sharp from up close, otherwise it looks kinda...black. I have natural, and it has a bit of a yellow tint to it, like butterscotch more than natural. The Saturn natural is a little more "natural." I love the platinum sparkle, but I was a little disappointed when I saw it in person. The flake is not what I expected. I'm used to the wrap type flakes, and these are smaller and not as apparent. It looks kind of like aluminum from a distance. Still cool nonetheless. I'm once again biased though, because I love the glass glitter and sparkle wraps. Gold Rules!

The Mapex natural finishes that I've seen in person have been gorgeous. They are great sounding drums as well. Good luck finding your kit!

I've seen a lot in person and there's only a couple I don't care for.
The 2 sparkles finisges are in fact lacquer finishes and not wraps. All the "woody" fade are awesome. Red Wood, Tobacco, Cameral, and Cherry Fade are stunning. The new solid stains are stunning too - Honey Maple, Sienna, and Sapphire Fade.
My 2 favs are Honey Maple Burst and Cherry Fade. We did a custom kit not too long ago..it was Honey Maple with Black Hardware. Major droolage! ;-)
I'd be glad to post hi res pics of any finish upon request.

Uh, let's not forget that the ultimate Mapex lacquer finish is the Saturn Laser Canary yellow. Amazing...

hey everybody, hello from spain,
just drums, i would really like to see that honey maple finish with black hardware if possible as i ordered my saturn in sienna burst YESTERDAY!, just in case i like it so much.
By the way i dont think there was a honey maple finish for the saturns...¿?
the gloss natural and the sienna burst with black hw i would also like to see, but i suppose is very difficult..
asap..., hehe, obviously before they get build, sorry for rushing and thanks
EDIT: right i found what i believe is the honey maple with black hw in this thread
http://www.drummerworld.com/forums/showthread.php?t=36659

I also sell Pro-M's in my job, and can tell you first hand that they are very nicely finished kits.

Theres some very nice finish for proMs i know, but i have ordered a Saturn, sienna burst chrome plated hw, and after reading few people i just thought how they would look like, i really like to know.
By the way you have the most beatiful delite i have seen so far (i really like sonor a lot, but the sclassix were a lot of money, and for what i paid for the saturn i could only get a force 3007), and i heard and played the saturn and is unbelieveable what an incredible kit it is for that price.
I had a 20x18, 10x8, 12x9, 14x11, 16x13 kit for 1200 euros, i could not be more satisfied with the price.
Something that makes me wonder anyway, the proM apparently has north american maple as well??, i suppose the quality wont be the same as the saturn will it?, also, how can the price be so similar between both kits when theres apparently a big difference in sound? (i have not played the pro M, but is what i read, heard, and actually it shall be an step between them...)

The Saturns are THE most underpriced kit in existance at the moment, and are a fantastic choice.
Not sure if it was directed at me, but I dont own a Delite, I own a Designer and a F3007.

My Emerald Green Pro M's are due sometime tomorrow. I went with the 24" virgin kick, 14" ,16" & 18" toms. It comes with an 8 x14 snare instead of the Black Panther but hey, for $699. shipped, I think I did good. Already have 2 Supras and an Acrolite warming up in the corner so I'm not too concerned with the stock snare. Anybody have a recommendation or two for heads ? Classic rock here. I think I have some clear Emp's. around somewhere but nothing for the kick as my current sets are smaller and won't fit the 24". I'd like to make the first purchase the correct one this time around having spent way too much
trying to get my Rockstars to sound decent. Like many, I love the big booming sound of Bonhams kick - any head or head combos that will help me get in the ball park ?

Hi, just an update, still few months to receive mine and i can not find any pictures (well just very little) of the saturn kit with the "sienna burst" finish. Apart from the ones from Mapex and the Namm show.
Has anybody seen pictures of it from someone that already owns it?, what i want is to actually see the kit in like real, not the perfect pictures from the dealers and stuff..., to get a proper idea of the finish,
I would appreciate anybody that can post the link to any (if you can find them, i am starting to think that nobody actually owns a saturn in sienna burst, christ)
regards

Just go to the Mapex forum and search for Sienna Burst -- you'll see some decent pics there:

hey, beatiful kit man, congrats. I have to say that i already been at centerstage and the only pics in sienna burst of a saturn i have post them myself ;-).
But for example the finish of your kit from your pics to the ones of mapex is completely different, thats why i asked...

This is the best example of a natural gloss kit I've seen ....Mapex website shots just are terrible. All I hear is how great their finishes are...you just have to see them in person...this thread helps!!!!!!

Hello baquetin, I had both a Saturn and Pro M at one time, but I sold them both. Anyway, I got out of drumming for a bit, and I just got going again. I tried to resist the urge to buy "more" than I actually needed, and the Pro M's were a perfect fit, so I bought another kit. The price between the two kits is somewhat substantial here in the States, and I couldn't justify paying the extra cash for features that I didn't truly need -- I was just looking for a solid, great sounding kit at a reasonable price.

that's the same reason why i couldn't justify paying more for an Orion kit vs. the Pro M. nowhere near worth the extra cost in my book even though my 1991 Mapex kit is an Orion. plus the Pro M had ALL of the features i needed in a kit.
andi just HAD to have the Vanilla Cream Pearl finish!!!!
NO pictures do justice to the Mapex finishes. you do have to see them in person for sure.

Actually, vanilla cream was my first choice, but I keep my drums in an upstairs room without air conditioning, and I was concerned about the wrap coming off over time. It gets to be very warm up there during the summer.
Now I have to get some tasty Paistes, but I'm having a hard time deciding. Ahhhhhhh....decisions! :)

I just wondered thats why, the thing is that the proM is actually at a very similar price here in Spain, obviously the proM comes with HW and on the saturn i am only talking about the shells.
But i do prefer the saturn shells in sound and i have some pieces of hw so my choice was to actually go for the shells that will give the sound i want.
Theres actually some cheap chinese hw that does the job for more than half the price, not talking about the most cheap one but their top series, i havent try it on the road i have to say, but for playing they do the job pretty well..
