HIPgig style bass lugs

I'm making my own retrofitted jazz kit that will collapse into itself via removable heads on the bass. Where can I get the right kind of lugs that will easily detach without the hassle of unscreing them after every gig? I'm getting ready to go over seas for a couple of years and I want to get something ready to take with so I don't have designate all of my playing to a practice pad. Thanks

Those work by opening the shell, not removing the rims. You can probably find the hardware that you would need by contacting Matt at Drummers World in NYC...

You could probably find everything you need at a hardware store.

How are you making/retrofitting your set? If you are sawing the bass drum in half (either in the center or close to the heads) I would recommend you glue a four-inch-thick strip of very thin plywood along the circumference inside one of the halves, with a 2-inch collar sticking out to slip inside the other half. You will need many clamps to hold this together while it dries.

I would suggest sawing the shell in half close to one of the heads, to minimize the downward pressure on the junction between the halves.

I would get some of those metal flip clasps to hold the halves together. These clasps are often seen on tool boxes, etc. Usually, a squarish hinged metal brace on one side flips on and off a squarish metal stud on the other side. Three or four should do it.
