Electric Kits

I was looking to get an electric drum kit that has MIDI support but I don't know what I need to look for. I would like a kit under $1000 dollars, but I've heard that the ones I've looked at can have issues with not picking up hits on quick drum rolls and such. Do I need anything special for a double bass set up? What should I look for in an electric kit?
