You know that device that was invented in the 1800's called the telephone? It works pretty well when you are looking for prices.

A drum forum isn't a music store. I don't have a DW price list and a discount percentage to give you a price for a DW VLT drum.

I also firmly believe in "If you have to ask how much it is, you probably can't afford it"

That has to be the most RUDE response I think I've ever heard.

Thank you sir!

By the way...I am part Canadian also, ...so this isn't a "canadian thing" :-)

riseandfall- get a life; no one is looking to argue with you, and maybe YOURE just mad that you cant afford a snare that price to play along with your nice little 4 piece metal band that IM SURE is top notch!

fusssion,

These prices are based on 40% off list(typical).

6x14(10+6)

FinishPly - 460
Satin Oil - 480
Lacquer - 560
Exotic - 600

Thanks N-A! I figured I'd be looking around 5-bones, but you never know. Like I said before ...sometimes people on here have the same drum, have recommendations, connections, etc, etc.....just thought I'd see what people knew.....since MOST of them are very helpful! ;)

No, it wasn't "necessary", and yes, no one deserves responses like that. But all he did was state his opinions, which are pretty much the same as mine. Maybe the issue is that he spoke his mind, and didn't bother to "candy coat" it so it would taste better. I"ve read far worse on this board that has been deemed "accectable."

Unless RiseandFall has had past trouble, to ban him for speaking his mind in this thread, albeit a bit "rude"...????

That guy was totally negative in several threads. Adios R&F.

I'm kind of a new drummer, and I was wondering what is so special about this drum (Materials, etc.)? Thanks!

"RiseandFall" had a suiting nickname, you have to give him that. :)

The way the wood grain runs on the shell (from top to bottom rather then around the drum from left to right) give the drum a lower fundamental note and a fatter more resonant sound. It's true too the differences are all there. Theres a great video on the DW website comparing the shells. Peart swears by his VLT snare in the vid.

'VLT consists of arranging the grain pattern of the plies in the shell so the outermost and innermost plies run vertically, and not the traditional horizontal. The vertical grain places less tension on the shell, allowing it to vibrate more freely, resulting in the lowered fundamental pitch.'

I don't believe a word of it to be honest. In the context of a ply drum, the percentage of construction that consists of the alternate grain arrangement is irrelevant. Companies were doing this in the 60's but never felt the need to market it. DW are the kings of marketing.

Dang, you beat me to making a cheesy joke. I was gonna say that Negative Attitude did not live up to his name, unlike rise and fall.

Thanks for the help guys. I think I'll actually have to try it out in person to determine if I think it's really that much better. A little off topic, what kind of snares do you guys have and do you like them?

Hi everyone,

You can hear samples of a VLT snare without re-inforcement hoops at the link below:

Search for post number 47 and 50

It sounds amazing for me!!

I´m triying to test the new X-Shell snare. Could be great too.

Best regards
Gustavo
