hi i am a drummer from the uk and recently went to a local auction and bought 3 sets of drums for £30, one of the kits was covered in black felt and showed no name and the wooben bass hoops were both painted black. well curiosity got the better of me and i peeled the black off and this is what i was left with, please could you tell me if possible what year or name it is and what colour they called it and as much info as possible please. i actualy gigged it last weekend and it was such a thrill to play somethin a little older. i know your probably busy guys but thanks for your time. trev

Looks like a 60's Sonor, but I'm no expert. The badge is certainly an older Sonor badge and the finish isn't something that's been offered for a long time. The hardware reminds me of 60's Premier hardware (particularly the tom legs). Try www.sonormuseum.com for some information.

If that black pattern is part of the drum wrap finish, that would probably be classified as an "onyx". Very cool kit.

thanks for your reply, yes the black is part of the wrap. the wooden hoops have been covered in black paint too but i have started to strip paint off to reveal a continuous wrap the same pattern as the rest of the kit. the hoop is now back to nateral wood but not sure if i should paint it or leave it nateral with some varnish coating, any sugestions most welcome. thank you.

Nice find....I have never been able to figure ou twhy people wrap drums in fur, foil or velvet but it looks like you have a nice and worthy restoration project!

Very cool kit and I bet they sound real musical too. I would suggest leaving the hoops in the natural state with the lacquer.

Leave the hoops original. Buy another set of hoops if you want "something else".

i realy appreciate all your coments and thank you all very much. i have take all the paint off the wooden hoops and it looks so much better and thats how im gonna keep it.

PLEASE ADVISE ME. when i took the felt wrap off the drums i was left with a sticky/tacky/gluey feel to all the drums, what would be the best stuff to use to get it off without damaging drums, cheers guys.

ps. i have never in my life been sentimental about a drum kit but this kit has changed the way i feel about playing and look so forward to the next gig to play them again.
