Hi guys, I need some new heads for a newly acquired bass drum. It's 24x16, and it has three ply birch shells with rings. I'm looking for that old school, open, boomy sound, with lots of low end rumble too. Not a thud, but more a low pitched thump with a fair bit of ring. I don't use any dampening.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. ;)

If you're handy with the felt strip, and you want to go totally old school, I'd go Ambassadors batter and reso. Felt to control overtone. I like to run a Powerstroke 3 batter (basically a Ambassador with a built in richie ring) with an Ambassador reso.

Harry's suggestion will work really well for the sound you described.

Ok guys, thanks for the info., I'll try it out. I know that you both drive 26's so I'll give it a try.
Cheers
EDIT* I bought a coated Emperor for the batter, for extra durability and i have them on my toms so, gave that a try. Coated Amb. on the front, NO HOLES ;)
