Hi, I've been drumming for about 3 years and recently switched from normal righty to open handed lefty. Took me hell of a hard time to lead with my left hand and reversing fills but finally got the hang of it...

Great to see you switching over like that. I actually did the opposite. I started out open handed (I didn't know any better), and then learned the "right" way.

I play Rock/Metal, and I find that playing open hand just makes everything sound more groovy. If I ever wanna get down though, play like a half time shuffle or something like that, I'll lead with my left instead.

Just play however you feel comfortable. Thats what lead me to start playing open handed in the first place. I guess I got somewhat lucky in that aspect, because I probably would have never picked up the open handed style of playing if not for my ignorance.

Open Handed for the win.
