Hello there. First post of mine on here, I've been reading the forums for over a year and figured I'd finally sign up.

I've very recently purchased a 14x5" 70's Supraphonic second hand. I was looking at getting a new pair of heads and some new snares for it, seeing as I got it for a very good price and I have some extra money for heads.

I currently play in a ska-punk band and looking for a quite 'traditional' punk sound with some overtones, but not overly ringy. I was looking into getting the classic Ambassador/G1 over hazy 300 combination, but with all these different heads out there might be another good alternative? I can get hold of Remo, Evans and Aquarian heads by the way.

Also, I have heard a lot of good things about Puresound snares. Any particular ones I want to use for this snare?

Thanks a lot,
Robert.

Welcome to DW Janson! I have tried a lot of different batter heads on my Supra's (400 & 402) from Evans, Aquarian & Remo but always find myself going back to the Remo Ambassador, or the 2-ply Remo Vintage A, which is a replica of the first Amb. Remo offered. All of the heads I've tried, with the expection of the Kevlar & Earthtone (Goat Skin) Heads, sounded good so it's really all a matter of taste, which is subjective as all get out, so whatever you try you should do fine.

I'll let someone else address the reso & wires because I usually run with Ludwig's, which may not be the best choices but they suit my tastes just fine........

I use Remo Emperor Coated over ambassador hazy with 42 strand snares on my 402. Sounds awesome. Try the ludwig heads too. they are made for the drum, so they are great!

I dont have any recomendations for bottom heads, but if you want that classic punk rock snare sound I would recomend evans hydrolics, or for the classic supraphonic sound, remo embassadors. Good luck

Another vote for the Coated Ambassador, what we have been hearing for decades!
