what orher snare heads other than the remo diplomat (coated) and ambassador (coated) (if bright actually means high pitched in the world of drumheads) that would contribute to the poppy sond of a snare? also a resonant head that might help? any brand is good, remo, evans, aquarian.

Evans Genera Dry will (duh) dry out the sound and make the crack more pronounced. I used one for a while and couldn't force myself to like the sound...I like my snare to ring a bit.

You may also try a higher strand-count on your snare wires, say a 24 instead of a 20 (or whatever you're using.)

I have a genera dry and I love the sound, it's tuned pretty low though and not so poppy, but I think you could get a sound out of the head like a high crack.

Are you referring to poppy as more like a popcorn crack? or more like a throwing a light bulb against a wall and hearing the gas rush out kind of pop (if you have ever thrown a bulb at a wall)

If it's more of a loud crack I agree with the Genera Dry, that's what I have and it definitely has a dry crack.

If you're looking more for a light bulb exploding (literal POP!) then I would say a thinner snare wire with the batter tuned higher. Like in Guerilla Radio - Rage Against the Machine (but this is tuned kind of low)

That's just what I find more poppy when I'm looking for that sound in my snare. Maybe you should ignore my post because after reading it myself, I'm confused.

does any one know of a batter and resonant head that would contribute to THIS sound?

Maybe Remo coated ambassador or Evans coated G1. Aquarian Texture Coated.

What size is your snare drum anyways? Just curious
