vintage Sonor beechwood kit needs heads

i used clear EQ3s and liked them but found them a bit too thick and plasticy.

i've got Evans G2 Coated now and find them too flat sounding.

what else would you suggest for beechwood (playing indie rock)? i may return to clears, maybe clear G2s since i don't have the cash for EQ3s. suggestions??

have you tried a single ply coated head? 2 ply heads may be the reason your not getting the sound you want
