New stick

I play with vic firth 2bs but i want to switch to a lighter stick that will be less damaging on my heads....but the problem is is that i dont get the same powerful punchy sound outta my drums with say a pair of extreme 5a's....i dont know what i should go for

Switch to Maple sticks and keep the size. Maple is lighter than Hickory. I assume you are playing Hickory at the moment.
I always practice with Hickory sticks but sometimes switch to Maple at band practice and it feels really good.

Try Dave Weckl Evolution sticks or the Brownish ones. You get so much power out of those sticks, and they are extremely versatile.

you can get the same "punchy" sound out of rimshots with any good drumstick, no matter the weight. And really, if you're getting loud sounds out of the drums by beating them hard, lighter sticks won't make a big difference cause you're still gonna hit em hard. Like I said, try rimshots.

Anway, if you lived in Brazil, I'd recommend you Liverpool Bob Wyatt signature sticks. They're so light, but so good.. best jazz sticks I've used in a while, and work just fine for rock.

The main influence on a solid sound of big sticks is the size of the bead. You should try American Custom SD7s (nylon) or American Heritage 5B. These are both maple sticks but have a very solid feel and sound.
