Im still debating on some new heads to invest in....i am tempted to go with the ec2's but im not so sure it will give me enough projection and tone for a live sound...although i hear these heads sound wonderful miced...any experience with these heads?..thanx

They can really sing if you tune them right, but it's also easy to get a good, short thump sound from them. Try them out.

EC2 Clears (what I have) work fine live acoustically or with mics. They will not project as much as say G1s,G2s though. I like EC2s although personally they sound a bit flat at times which is what they are designed for I suppose. They have that high end attack and the low end resonance but not a lot of the midrange tones that carry. You can never go wrong with G1 Coated heads though, G2s work fine too but I've always had a tough time tuning those for some reason.

depends on your drum wood also,..they will sound differently on Maple as opposed to Birch, etc.....I've had both clear and coated on Birch and got a nice range out of them!

Might want to look at an EC1 if you want a little more projection or go with a regular two ply head like a G2 that doesn't have the overtone ring.

+1 on the EC1s. If you want more sustain than the EC2s they are great, and they'll probably cut through the band better when unmiked.

Man im still stuck between the g2s and the ec2's....i want a pure tone kinda sound...and i want my toms to have that diving kinda "deeoon" kinda sound...so maybe i should try the g2's...cuz i know i want clear heads so i can get a more lively breathing sound but i dont want my toms to just sound like thumps...hmmm whats a guy to do

G2's will project better without a doubt also the pitch bend is all in the tuning relationship between the two heads.

Why not buy one of each for just one drum, say, a 12" tom? Try them one after the other and you can get an idea of how a set of them will sound, without going broke.
