what are some of the most important things you've learned throughout the years of drumming?

i guess i'll start, some of the most important things i've learned (besides rhythm) is good cymbal technique, how to get great tuning out of your drums (YEAH! :D), and how to have an ergonomic set-up

I reckon the last year or so, I have been working hard on the dynamics of strokes ie:- different volume of strokes within a grouping, if you follow what I mean. I believe it is the major difference between a average drummer and a good drummer playing the same piece of music.

To listen to others, and find the role within the piece of music. To also not get too excited by the other players and react too much. To stay focused within all the 'drama'.

I've learned that sometimes, less is more.

You don't always have to be so busy and do crazy things.

A solid groove is whats really important.

The main thing I've learned over the years is that you need to stay as comfortable and relaxed as possible while playing. If you're tired or in pain, you're not playing efficiently. And it can also be assumed that all proper technique has been thrown out if you've reached that level.
