During the last few weeks I have seen my pupil progressing quite a lot in her playing. She seems to have gained a bit of confidence (though she refused to perform a song for her mom). Nutha_Jason's syncopation lesson (thread on DW) (http://drummerworld.com/forums/showthread.php?t=36278) helped her a lot in independence and her "freedom" to play what she wants to play. We were studying a song by Nickelback, called "how you remind me", which is a pretty nice song to practise to. She doesn't play it perfectly, of course, but she got the essentials and starts coming up with her own fills even though she has only been playing since late august (it took much longer for me to work up the guts of just "letting loose" on my drum kit as a fill. Of couse her fills aren't as sophisticated as mine but at least she has the confidence to play them.
The next song we will be studying is Kayleigh, by Marillion. Along with studying songs I also have her play rudiments, groove- and independence exercises.
I just wanted to share this with you all. I am very proud, and it also inspires some confidence in myself as a teacher.
