Wow, very very cool indeed.

Great playing, Tom. Your music posts are getting better & better.. Awesome comping on both tunes. That a pro performance right there!

I felt your snare could have been a little looser on the Basie tune, but that just me... and I was kinda hoping you'd throw in a little more 'attitude' on the Horace Silver tune.. and again, thats just me..

but that doesnt take away anything at all. look forward to the next installment. ; )

Thanks for your request...I knew I`d find these tunes here.
Nice playing man! I like both tunes very much!

Sounds kinda "vintage"...you know? :-)
In "All Right..." there were some balance problems sometimes, the swing sometimes sounded so different, sometimes it felt very straight, sometimes very swung with an "In front of the beat" feel. Or for example when you first switch from hi-hat to ride...that crash isn`t the "a" nor it is the 1. But I really don`t wanna seem petty or fussy with that stuff. Just keep up playing please!!! You`ve got a nice voice...keep up doing that swing. Inspiring stuff definitly.

Good work!

Karl

Thanks for the link Tom. Both tunes sound very good. Both your swing and snare comping is very nice.

I think I played the first song in jazz band when I was a kid. Brought back memories :)

Hey nice playing Tom. I really liked Song For My Father. I disagree with what Aydee (let's have it out in the parking lot ;-) said, i think you played it very well. I think it's quite easy, to overplay in Bossa, but it's not how the music is; i think you played quite tastefully.

I liked 'All Right' too, nice solo, but it felt like it rushed a bit. What cymbals are you using? It's really great that you've got people to play with now, you can really notice your improvement.

I loved the bossa tune! Very laid back and pleasing to listen to.
I believe the first tune is a Count Basie tune? As I believed Karl mentioned below the ride was sometimes in consistent but I don't think it's anything to worry about, I think it comes in time. My ride is far more inconsistent than yours =] I loved the comping! But if you listen to some basie tunes, the drummer "drops the bomb" with trumpet soloists. Maybe try it to capture the basie feel? But I'm not expert with Basie so correct me if I'm wrong.=] I also noticed the "tight" hi hat chick! Loved it. The solo was sometimes a little off beat, but it was nicely done and had the swing feel all the way. It was much better than the solo you did with Mercy Mercy or one of those youtube videos. Very nice playing and pleasing to listen to!

Thanks for the all comments everyone. I greatly appreciate it.

Nice playing as usual Tom!! I love the way you play your cymbals. And I enjoyed Song for my Father especially :() Keep me updated as usual on any new recordings coming out!

Hey, thanks Matt! I'm glad you liked it. I spend a lot of time experimenting with the cymbals. The sound of the cymbals came out very nicely in the recording and I really like the big wash that I do at 3:32 especially.

Thanks Latin Groover. Yeah, I was trying to keep it simple throughout the entire song.
I have a 17" Zildjian K Dark Medium-Thin crash, a 20" Zildjian K ride, an old 20" Zildjian ride and a 13" HHX Sabian hi-hat. And I've always had people to play with, it's just that I didn't really have the opportunity to record like I do now.

Thanks tak22thegoat, but I don't think it was the ride exactly. I think it was more of the feel itself. The swing feel certainly does take a very long time to master. I'm glad you liked the solo and thanks for adding me as a friend on MS. :)

I'm honored you thought of me! Great playing as usual. More and more I am becoming consumed by a passion for jazz. My daughters say "Dad you listen to elevator music-where are the words" (thirty years ago I would have agreed-total rock fiend). My children are culturally deprived-My Bad. I am envious of your band, and my goal is join or form a jazz ensemble. Despite your great documented speed you don't let that consume you and you play with such finesse. You are on your way. I expect great things for your future.

Well Tom, the word envy comes to mind!

Man that was some smooth playing, and your band are great. Like Matt said, your sound from the cymbals is great and I think that was the best part for me. Some pretty nice snare work too on "All right". Well done.

There's an add coming your way...

Take care and thanks for sending me a link.

Hey Tom I just saw this.

http://www.extremesportdrumming.com/tomgrosset.htm

Well after you wiping out my 16 and under world record, I see that I can at least be happy to know that at 16 years 7 months, compared to your 16 years 11 months, I am still the youngest ever WFD champion ():

Seriously though congratulations on getting your WFD champions page. It was long overdue.

Hey Matt,

Yeah, Boo finally got my WFD page up. And congrats on still being the youngest WFD champ ever =)

Boo is still working on this video of me as well so I'll put that up when it's ready.

Hey man, nice feel on the bossa song! I agree with a few comments about the inconsistency of your swing at certain points in "All Right...", but all around very nice playing!
