Hi All,

My mate has decided finally to succumb to the mid-life crises and buy a Bass Guitar and my other mate, who plays guitar, is itching to get back into music after he’s had two small children running around the place so we’ve decided to form what could loosely be called a band! I’m really excited because I’ve been playing two years and been trying to get together with other musicians for ages….I’m also very, very nervous!

My mate is learning a few tracks and I said I’d try to get to grips with the drum parts. I have the tracks and I'm beginning to think about transcriptions but thought I’d ask if anyone has transcriptions that they wouldn’t mind sharing with me. The tracks are
Cocaine (Clapton)
This isn’t it (Giant Drag)
Call Me (Blondie)
Get it on (T Rex)
I think he’s chosen these because of the simple bass lines rather than a reflection of his musical taste....although you never know.

I’d also appreciate any advice, suggestions or stories that might make this a good experience for me. As far as I know only one has been in a band so the bass player and I have no experience of playing with real people, except if you count my 10 years playing in a brass band ;o)

Cheers
Kevin

to find transcriptions to these song or any songs, just google them. type in something like "eric clapton transcription" Im sure you can find any of these things on the web, or in a book at any music store. the bands and songs you picked are pretty popular so i doubt you will have any trouble finding them. also a good thing to do is to go on youtube and type in something like "eric claption". you will find people playing his songs or playing to his songs. ask these people in the comments section if they have any transcriptions to the music. This is the only help i can give you, i dont have any of these transcriptions you want and i saw that nobody has helped you out since you posted this. I have used the above methods quite often and they work, i hope it does for you.

oh, and for advice about jammin with other dudes.....most importantly, have fun. second, dont ruin a friendship over it and try some original music. Original music is where you will build your own style, plus its fun to make your own songs. by writing your own music, you can see how things fit and work together, and it also helps you appreciate the music others make. You can mix these original tunes with your cover tunes and have a blast. plus, you never know who just might like your own music. there is no such thing as a cover band that went gold or platinum!!! but, like i said, just have a blast and create the soundtrack to your life!!!

ps.....i hope you have good timing, technique and creativity. good luck and take care

Thanks, Good advice. I think at my age the need to go gold or platinum is long gone but having fun is at the top of the list.....

Not bad, still learning and still developing. I'm hoping that playing with other musicians will help to develop all three.

Thanks Balboa your reply is much appreciated

you'll never know if some big wig likes your music if all you play is covers....thats what i meant by. You will NEVER have a chance with out originals. plus originals are something you can be proud of because youve created them. good luck, hope you enjoy!!
