i need a new batter head, a 26" (which btw is a pain in the ass size when it comes to buying heads) and i was considering either an aquarian super kick II or a evans eq3. i use evans on all my other drums and i had an emad (2?) on my old 22" kick - which i'm still bummed they don't make in 26". but i know alot of people get good sounds from the super kick II's, another drummer in my practice space has it and i tested it out and it sounds pretty good. i'm also considering the super kick II's cause it already has dampening on it, the eq3 is advertised as having "an internal overtone control ring and an EQ muffle ring" but it doesn't look like it would do much dampening compared to the aquarian. any suggestions????

I currently use and like both heads. The SKII is my batter head, while the EQ3 (ported) is my resonant.

I would suggest an Aquarian 'Impact' head over a Super Kick. Impact has a 'wider' felt ring, otherwise its the same, same. You'll need the bigger felt on the 26"

I don't know I think the SKII still probably has enough damping while still letting the drum resonate just a little for a nice tone

I do know, I've played them both. The Impact is more useful, especially if you like to put any type of muffeling against your head. Of the two, I was sold on Super-Kick until I tried Impact.

I've played SK1 and impacts as well, I think the SKII would be a nice middle ground, Guess the first thing that needs to be known is what kind of music (i'm assuming rock) and does he want a dead sound or something with some small overtone to it?

I play a 26" Ludwig kick and when the batter head blew I tried to buy an emad to replace it. The guitarcenter did not carry 26" emads but they did have an eq3 so that's what I got.
I love this head. It has the dry but powerful thump that sounds great. The 22" DW kick my church has is equipped with an emad. It sounds no where near as good as my eq3, so I'm going to replace it with an eq3.
