Tama vs. Ludwig vs. Pearl

I've got a Tama Swingstar that I've had for about 4 years (as long as I've been playing). I don't know what year it is, but it was pretty used when I got it and I can't say I've been great to it. A friend just fixed up a 5pc Ludwig Rocker II kit from the mid 80's and wants to sell it. It looks nice online, but I'm not able to play them as he's in Cali & I'm in AZ. I'm not too familiar with the Ludwig line, especially mid 80's when I wasn't even playing. My cousin told me to keep my Tama and fix it up, but I think I'm ready for a new kit anyway. My friend in Cali is selling the Ludwig kit with 2 crashes, a ride, a splash and 2 or 3 stands for $500. I have all this stuff (except the splash) but could flesh out my kit if these are better than what I have. On the other hand, I could get a brand new Tama Imperialstar or Pearl VX Vision for the same price. Just the 5pc and 2 stands, no extra frills. Again, seeing as I've only owned a Tama, I was hoping someone could help me out with this decision and maybe give me some of their opinions.

In question of durability and hardware, I would definitely go with the Pearl. Their Vision series is probably the best mid-line basswood/birch combo out there.
