I currently have a 14x6 Yamaha steel snare and a 14x8 Pearl floater with a brass shell. I switch theese two out as my main snare. I'm looking for a side snare for my kit and have narrowed it down to a 13x3.5 steel, a 12x5 or a 10x5 wood. What would you choose and why?

There's a nice 12" Yamaha, don't remember the model. Black, with a Kanji sign on the side. It was quite nice as far as I recall, and not so expensive.
If you already have two 14", you might be looking for a 13" or a 12". A 10"... I don't know... looks a bit like a toy to me, more like a curiosity; you might not use it so often. You maybe want to use the 13" or 12" as the main snare in some sort of gigs; you'll probably not do it with a 10".
I personally have a 14"/5" black nickel/steel and a 13"/6" wood. Nice combination with a lot of possibilities.

Hey Drumrunner,
A 12 or a 13 sounds good as an auxiliary snare. It all depends on your own ear, though. Always a good idea to actually hear the snare you buy instead of buying it unheard. Take your time in researching the snare drum market. There are a whole bunch of them out there. Good luck and tell us what you got. Peace.
