I recently put a hole in my bass drums resonant head, tuned it up properly and it sounds pretty good. But I find I am getting some pedal bounce that is something new to me. Tried decreasing the pedal spring but it didnt seem to work. I learned recently I have been tuning my batter side too tight, so I loosened it and the sound was great. I must have been used to playing it tight because now I find mty technique I was using on the pedal just isnt jiving. So is it the pedal? Technique? Dampening? Does the hole I cut make the difference. Cant seem to get rid of it.

What exactly do you mean by pedal bounce, i'm not following.

Just learn to let the beater rebound off the head. That way you can adapt to any bass drum and any pedal.

Exactly. Saying the bass drum is suddenly making the beater bounce is like saying the snare drum is suddenly making the drumsticks bounce. This is normal. The goal in both cases is to learn how to work WITH the bounce.

but wouldn't the tighter BD head make the beater bounce more? and wouldn't the springs in the pedal make the beater bounce back anyway? I don't understand what the problem is ha.

There is no real problem, it's just that you need to let it flow naturally. You use the rebound to your advantage. I think he thinks that it shouldn't for some reason, and just stop quite suddenly, if I'm not mistaken.

from what i understand...you did not have the problem before you cut the hole? or did it just not make a noticeable sound? is this a different head from which you have been playing? do you have different dappeners in the drum that makes the rebound feel different?

As mention before, allow the beater to bounce off and catch the pedal with your foot, as you would with your hands on the snare drum.

Or does the entire pedal board come off the ground when you strike the drum? might not be centered at the bottom of the rim, or attatched tight enough.
